After official qualifying, Anatoly had finished with a good third time overall, pole position in Group C in 1.11.622.
All heats were postponed to Saturday due to the downpour on the Italian track. In the first heat on Saturday morning, Anatoly was unfortunately forced to retire, concentrating on the last two heats available. With two third positions, Khavalkin ended his Saturday heat programme in 13th position, despite retiring in the morning.
On the final Sunday, Anatoly made as usual the ‘quantum leap’ and managed to move up five places in the Pre-final, finishing in second position and moving up to 10th overall for the OK Senior final.
A hard-fought race for Khavalkin, who was forced to lose a few positions after the first laps, but then recovered thanks to overtaking, race pace and opportunities to exploit along the seventeen total laps. Second position at the end of the race for the European Champion with eight positions recovered from the start and the possibility of playing for the overall victory of the trophy at Lonato this weekend.
Khavalkin will indeed close his WSK season at South Garda Karting starting from the next days with Round 2 of the WSK Final Cup.
